"When Abram was ninety-nine years old the LORD appeared to Abram and said to him, 'I am God Almighty."
- Genesis 17:1

Our verse finds its origin in the Lord's forever covenant with Abram and his children. In this chapter, the Lord describes his role in fulfilling his particular promise to his chosen instrument of international blessing. The term "Almighty" as attributed to the Lord refers to God's supreme and sovereign power over all of his creation. It is also known as God's omnipotence or sovereignty. To say that the Lord is Almighty is to say that he is fully able to accomplish all that he desires in heaven and on earth forever. Nothing can stop him and no one can thwart him. In other words, God is Lord over all of his creation.

So what does this mean for your life? It means that nothing in your life today or tomorrow will happen by chance, luck or fate. Everything happens according to God's purposes and plans. Your family, health, friendships, work, church, country and everything else in all the world is under the careful and watchful eye and hand of the Creator and Sustainer of the universe. This means that though you are not under control of these things, the Lord, the God of the Bible, has been under control, is under control and will be under control of all things at all times and in this your peace is found. Give to him your worry, fear and anxiety about these things. Hear the encouragement of the apostle Peter, "Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you" (1 Peter 5:6-7).

For Jesus,
Pastor Mark
