“Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it." - Luke 11:28

Theologian John Frame helpfully explains, "When God reveals himself, he does so as the Lord. His word is his powerful, authoritative self-expression, in which he comes personally to be with us. This word comes in many forms and through many media, including Scripture, God's Word written." In this verse, Jesus Christ teaches us that there is a unique blessing that is only experienced by those who do two things: hear the word of God and keep it. Following Jesus could be summarized by this statement. You can't keep the word of God without hearing it. Likewise, you'll never experience God's blessing without keeping the word of God. The two go hand in hand. In fact, you haven't really understood the word of God until you've kept it.

So, how often do you set aside time to hear the word of God? If you've never begun to do so, when would be the best time and place for you to do so? It could be with a cup of coffee in the morning all alone at your dining room table or in your car on the way to work or during your lunch break. And are you keeping the word of God? Through faith in Jesus, you are adopted into God's family alongside other brothers and sisters. Through this family, you can now experience the blessings of prayer and encouragement to keep the word of God. You can both receive prayer and pray for others. Also, you can both receive encouragement and encourage others. Through these powerful means, you grow in your ability to keep God's word. There's no better time to begin to hear and keep God's word than today. Start with one chapter of the Bible. A little goes a long way. Just get started! You'll be glad you did.

For Jesus,
Pastor Mark
