"Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways!"
- Romans 11:33

In the context of this letter to the Church at Rome, the apostle Paul has just taken eleven chapters to teach his readers about the amazing plan of God to save his people from sin, guilt and death through Jesus Christ. Now he breaks out into praise to the Lord for who he is and what he's done. In doing so, he highlights the wisdom and knowledge of God. God's wisdom or knowledge is also known as his omniscience. As theologian Charles Hodge explained, "God is said to know Himself and all things out of Himself...Being the cause of all things, God knows everything by knowing Himself; all things possible, by the knowledge of his power, and all things actual, by the knowledge of his own purposes." In a word, God is the Wise God.

So what does this have to do with your life today? God knows the worst about you and still sent Christ to save you. He knew every sinful thought, word and deed you would ever do and still loved you so much that he sent his Son to save you from sin and its effects. It also means that because he knows the worst about you, his love for you will never change. He loves you with eyes wide open. It also means you don't have to feel anxious, worried or afraid about what may happen tomorrow because God knows and has a good plan for you. So trust in the Lord. Come to him with your burdens and requests. He knows what's best for you and his purposes will prevail. Will you place your confidence in the Wise God?

For Jesus,
Pastor Mark
