"Every word of God proves true;
he is a shield to those who take refuge in him."

- Proverbs 30:5

What do we mean when we say that the Bible is inerrant? By inerrant, we mean to say that the Word of God is free from error in the original manuscripts. When Scripture was originally written, it was written in such a way that it contained no mistakes - not with respect to history, science or any other field of human knowledge. This is because behind every human author of the Bible is the ultimate author: the Holy Spirit, who is God himself and cannot fail. When there is an apparent discrepancy between a field of human knowledge and the Bible, we believe that Scripture will shown to be finally and fully vindicated. This is why the author of our proverb says that at the end of the day, when all is said and done, "every word of God proves true."

So what does this mean for your life today? It means as our proverb puts it, "he is a shield to those who take refuge in him." While you may have trusted in other sources of knowledge and found that they have proven to be faulty, God's Word is your protective cover against the lies of the world. You may have placed your confidence in the words of a human being, but Scripture is your shelter from danger and distress. People may deceive you, the sciences may be subject to change, the opinions of others may be found wrong in the end, but the Word of God is your safe and sturdy foundation for knowledge in this life. The One who created the world and all things in it has revealed to you who he is and what he wants from you through the Bible. You can stake your life on that.
