"The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ
and the love of God
and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit
be with you all."

- 2 Corinthians 13:14

While some religions (like Judaism and Islam) teach that there is only one God; and other religions (like Hinduism or the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) teach that there are many gods; only Christianity teaches that there is only one God who eternally exists in three persons. This is known as the doctrine of the Trinity. What does it mean to say that God is triune or Trinity? Well, we need to remember that God is not a math problem to be solved but the living God we are to worship. Since God is our Creator, we cannot fully understand him as he understands himself. That being said, we affirm that there is only God (Deuteronomy 6:4). We affirm that the Father of Jesus Christ is God (John 5:18). We affirm that Jesus Christ himself is God (Titus 2:13). And we affirm that the Holy Spirit is God (Acts 5:3-4). And yet, we also affirm that the Father is distinct from the Son, who is also distinct from the Holy Spirit (Matthew 3:16-17). And we also affirm that every attribute that is described about God in the Bible, is equally shared by each person in the Trinity (justice, love, wrath, etc.). This is the doctrine of the Triune God or the Trinity.

So what does this have to do with your life today? If the Father had not predestined your salvation from sin, guilt and death; you would never have been saved (Romans 8:30). If Christ the Son of God, had not died on the cross; you would have never been saved (1 Corinthians 15:3). If the Holy Spirit had not convicted you of your sins (John 16:8), you would have never been saved. So the one true and living God who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit is worthy of your worship, praise and admiration for all that he has accomplished to save you. As the great hymn puts it, "Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty! Early in the morning our song shall rise to thee. Holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty! God in three persons, blessed Trinity!"

For Jesus,
Pastor Mark
